Plot
A paper merchant in Osaka falls in love with a courtesan, and the lovers are doomed to a suicide pact. Adapted from Chikamatsu's puppet play.
Sinekatalog’s take
Masahiro Shinoda's stylised drama retells Chikamatsu's puppet play of a paper merchant and a courtesan bound for a lovers' pact. Using black-clad stagehands and stark design, it is a haunting, formal and moving tragedy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
