Sinekatalog’s take
Hou Hsiao-hsien's hushed drama watches courtesans and patrons in 1880s Shanghai brothels in long, glowing takes. Slow, candlelit and composed, with Tony Leung, it is a hypnotic, exquisitely controlled period piece.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
