A woman and her history of Taiwan.
Sinekatalog’s take
Hou Hsiao-hsien's layered film intercuts an actress preparing to play a 1950s Taiwanese resistance fighter with her own tangled past. Ambitious and elliptical, it is a quiet, subtle meditation on memory, history and loss.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
