Plot
In a small Macedonian town, an unemployed woman, Petrunya, who has recently been turned down for a job interview, impulsively jumps into a river to grab a cross thrown by a priest in an Orthodox Epiphany ritual, which only men are allowed to do. Her victory causes outrage among the men, and a confrontation with the police and church. Teona Strugar Mitevska's 2019 film is a tragicomedy of patriarchy.
Sinekatalog’s take
Teona Strugar Mitevska's satire has an unemployed woman jump into a river to grab a cross in an Orthodox Epiphany ritual reserved for men. Zorica Nusheva is superb in a funny, angry film about patriarchy, church and small-town hypocrisy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
