Plot
Winfried, a jokey, retired music teacher with a love of pranks, is worried about his workaholic daughter Ines, a business consultant in Bucharest. He turns up unannounced, and when she asks him to leave, invents an alter ego, Toni Erdmann, a life coach with false teeth and a wig, who infiltrates her life. Maren Ade's 2016 comedy runs almost three hours, and was nominated for an Academy Award.
Sinekatalog’s take
Maren Ade's German comedy about a prankster father and his career-obsessed daughter is awkward, long and extraordinary. Its big comic set pieces and quiet emotion sneak up on you in a way few films manage.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
