Plot
Aydın, a retired actor who runs a hotel in Cappadocia, lives with his much younger wife Nihal and his sister Necla. During the winter, as snow isolates the hotel, he is drawn into conflicts with his family and with a tenant in debt, which expose his vanity and the rifts between them. Nuri Bilge Ceylan's 2014 film, known in English as Winter Sleep, won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
Sinekatalog’s take
Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Palme d'Or winner follows Aydın, a retired actor running a Cappadocian hotel, as winter isolates him with his young wife, sister and a tenant in debt. Haluk Bilginer is remarkable in a long, talky and brilliantly acted study of pride, guilt and class.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
