Plot

Taran, a young woman living in a small town in India, is bound by her father's expectations and the social conventions of her family. She remains within the walls of the family home, her thoughts and feelings unexpressed. Kumar Shahani's 1972 film, one of the first formalist films in Indian cinema, with its measured camera movements and sparse dialogue, won the National Award for best Hindi feature.

Sinekatalog’s take

Kumar Shahani's debut follows a young woman in a small Indian town bound by her father's expectations, her feelings unspoken. Austere and formal, with painterly images and spare dialogue, it is a challenging, influential work of Indian art cinema.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
