Plot

In São Paulo, Pixote, a ten-year-old boy, is sent to a reform school, where he sees brutality and abuse. He escapes with a group of friends and is drawn into a life of petty crime, drugs and violence on the streets. Héctor Babenco's 1981 film, using real street children as actors, including Fernando Ramos da Silva, is a harsh, realistic portrait of childhood in Brazil.

Sinekatalog’s take

Héctor Babenco's brutal drama of street kids in São Paulo is shocking and heartbreaking. Played by non-professionals, including the tragic Fernando Ramos da Silva, it is a raw, unflinching social document.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
