Plot

Arthur Seaton, a lathe operator in a Nottingham factory, works hard all week and spends his wages on beer, fights and women. He has an affair with a married colleague's wife, Brenda, but also falls for a young woman, Doreen, and his freewheeling life begins to catch up with him. Karel Reisz's 1960 film, with Albert Finney, is a classic of British "kitchen sink" realism.

Sinekatalog’s take

Karel Reisz's British New Wave classic follows a hard-drinking factory worker's weekend rebellion. Albert Finney is magnetic, and the film's gritty realism and working-class voice were groundbreaking.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
