Plot
Yoav, a young Israeli man, arrives in Paris and decides to abandon his language and nationality, having had enough of his country and military service. He learns French through a dictionary, and rejects Hebrew entirely, while two French friends take him in. Nadav Lapid's 2019 film, with a restless, semi-autobiographical energy, won the Golden Bear in Berlin.
Sinekatalog’s take
Nadav Lapid's furious, funny drama follows an Israeli who flees to Paris and tries to erase his past and language. Tom Mercier is electric, and the film's restless energy makes a raw, formally bold study of identity.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
