Plot

Three friends from a Pennsylvania steel town, Michael, Nick and Steven, go off to fight in Vietnam, after a wedding and a last deer hunt. They are captured and forced to play Russian roulette, and return home as changed men. Michael Cimino's 1978 film, with Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep, is a long and powerful study of friendship and trauma, and won five Academy Awards.

Sinekatalog’s take

Cimino's long Vietnam drama follows steelworkers before, during and after the war. The Russian roulette scenes are infamous, but the film's strength is the slow, mournful wedding and homecoming scenes.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
