Sinekatalog’s take
Lev Kuleshov's sound film, inspired by O. Henry, follows a writer in prison who consoles inmates with false stories, exposing the power of illusion. Thoughtful and formal, with striking staging, it is a subtle, bittersweet work from a master of montage.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
