Plot

In 1966, Alia, a young Tunisian musician, returns to the palace where her mother, Khedija, once worked as a maid and singer for the royal family in the last years of the monarchy. She remembers the humiliations that the women of the household endured, and the way her mother kept silent. Moufida Tlatli's 1994 film is a delicate study of class, memory and gender.
