Plot

Jacques Cousteau and the crew of the research vessel Calypso explore the underwater world, from coral reefs to deep sea wrecks. Divers use the new aqualung to swim among fish, sharks and whales, and show how the ocean can both astonish and be endangered by human activity. Cousteau and Louis Malle's 1956 documentary, among the first films shot in colour underwater, won both the Palme d'Or at Cannes and an Academy Award.

Sinekatalog’s take

Jacques Cousteau and Louis Malle's Palme d'Or winner takes viewers diving among coral reefs, sharks and wrecks aboard Calypso. Colourful and pioneering, though some scenes now seem careless, it opened the seas to the cinema.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
