Plot
Four separate stories deal with men in Iran who are asked to carry out executions as conscripts and how they live with the consequences. Each tells of a different response, from obedience to refusal, and shows the cost of conscience under an authoritarian state. Mohammad Rasoulof's 2020 film, made secretly while he was banned from filmmaking, won the Golden Bear in Berlin.
Sinekatalog’s take
Mohammad Rasoulof's anthology of four stories asks what Iranian men do when ordered to execute. Gripping, humane and angry, it won the Golden Bear and made a bold case for conscience in an oppressive system.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
