Plot

Jim Stark, a troubled teenager, arrives in a new town after his family moves again. On his first day at school he is drawn into conflict with a gang, and meets Judy, a girl with problems of her own, and Plato, a lonely younger boy who idolises him. A "chickie run" with cars at a cliff edge leads to tragedy. Nicholas Ray's 1955 film, with James Dean, who died shortly before its release, made him an icon of teenage rebellion.

Sinekatalog’s take

Nicholas Ray's teenage-angst classic made James Dean an icon. Its colour, its emotional honesty and its planetarium and chicken-run scenes still resonate, even if the dialogue sounds dated.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
