About Sinekatalog

Sinekatalog is a non-profit educational project. Its purpose is to teach people how to watch cinema: how to look at a film, what to notice, and why some films and filmmakers changed the way movies are made.

What we do

We follow the history of cinema through its directors. Every director has a short biography and a list of films. Every film has a plot summary, a short critical note and a "what to look for" section that points to the details worth watching for: framing, editing, sound, performance. Directors are grouped by era, school or movement, and country, so a viewer can move from one filmmaker to the next and see how they connect.

Who it is for

For anyone who wants to move beyond "I liked it" or "I did not like it": students, film club members, and curious viewers who want to know where to start and what to watch next. The site is available in Turkish and English.

How the content is made

The plot summaries, critical notes and biographies on this site are written and edited by the site team for this project. Film data, posters, photographs and ratings come from third-party sources that are listed on the Sources & Credits page. Ratings are approximate and change over time. We do our best to be accurate. If you find a mistake, please tell us.
