Edward Dmytryk

Classical Hollywood

Born in Grand Forks, British Columbia, in 1908 and dying in 1999, Edward Dmytryk came up as a film editor and made B-movies before Murder, My Sweet (1944), one of the first film noirs. Crossfire (1947), a thriller about an anti-Semitic murder, was nominated for five Oscars. In 1947 he was one of the 'Hollywood Ten' who refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee, was jailed, and later gave evidence naming others. The Caine Mutiny (1954) was his biggest hit.
