Born in Salò in 1916 and died in 2007, Luigi Comencini co-founded the Cineteca Italiana in Milan, and had a long and varied career as a director of comedies, dramas and films about childhood. He was one of the founders of the commedia all'italiana. Bread, Love and Dreams (1953) was a hit, and Everybody Go Home (1960) mixed comedy and tragedy in the chaos following the armistice of September 1943. His television miniseries The Adventures of Pinocchio (1972) is one of the most admired adaptations of Collodi's tale.
