Sinekatalog’s take

Stanley Kwan's biopic of silent star Ruan Lingyu blends reenactment, interviews and surviving footage. Maggie Cheung is superb in an elegant, layered and heartbreaking portrait of fame and tragedy in 1930s Shanghai.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
