Plot

In 1889, a married Swedish army officer, Count Sixten Sparre, deserts his regiment and his family and runs away with Elvira Madigan, a young tightrope walker. They spend a summer in the Danish countryside, in an idyll that is threatened by money troubles and the pursuit of the law. Bo Widerberg's 1967 film, with Mozart's piano concerto on the soundtrack, was an international success.

Sinekatalog’s take

Bo Widerberg's lyrical romance follows a Swedish officer and a tightrope walker who flee to the countryside for a summer. Pia Degermark and Thommy Berggren are lovely, and the sunlit images carry the doomed, Mozart-scored idyll.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
