Plot

A little girl learns that her older sister, who has tuberculosis, will die when the last leaf falls from the tree outside her window. She goes out at night and ties leaves back onto the branches with string, in an attempt to save her. A doctor discovers what she has done and is moved. Made in 1912 by Alice Guy-Blaché, who ran her own studio in New Jersey and was among the first directors to tell narrative stories on film, the short is a rare surviving example of her work.

Sinekatalog’s take

Alice Guy-Blaché's 1912 short has a little girl tying leaves back onto a tree to save her tubercular sister. Simple, tender and well-staged, it is a touching early film by a cinema pioneer.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
