Plot
Lazzaro, a young peasant, so good-natured that he is taken advantage of, works on a tobacco farm in the Italian countryside. When he befriends the marquise's son, Tancredi, and falls down a mountain, he wakes up in the modern world, unchanged. Alice Rohrwacher's 2018 film, known in Italian as Lazzaro felice, is a modern fable that won the prize for best screenplay at Cannes.
Sinekatalog’s take
Alice Rohrwacher's fable follows a saintly peasant across time, from exploited farm to modern city. Dreamy, odd and moving, it mixes realism with magic to question goodness and exploitation.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
