Plot

Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and stand-up comedian in a decaying Gotham City, lives with his mother and struggles with mental illness and cuts to social services. Bullied and ignored, he is pushed over the edge and becomes the criminal figure known as the Joker. Todd Phillips's 2019 film, with Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Oscar for Best Actor, was controversial and a huge box-office success.

Sinekatalog’s take

A grim character study of a failing comedian in a decaying Gotham. Joaquin Phoenix's physical performance is the film's centre, though its relationship to violence and its debt to Scorsese split opinion.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
