Plot

Two geisha sisters in Kyoto take different approaches to a hard, exploitative life.

Sinekatalog’s take

Kenji Mizoguchi's biting drama follows two Kyoto geisha sisters, one dutiful and one rebellious, in a world that uses them. Isuzu Yamada is fierce in an unsentimental, angry and sharply observed classic.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
