A bleak family drama about two sisters and their absent mother.

Sinekatalog’s take

Yasujiro Ozu's darkest film follows two sisters and their absent mother in a bleak Tokyo. Setsuko Hara is sombre in a quiet, mournful drama of abandonment and sorrow, remarkable for its restraint and grief.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
