Plot
Three servicemen return home to the same American town at the end of the Second World War: Al, a sergeant who becomes a banker, Fred, a decorated bombardier who finds only a menial job, and Homer, a sailor who lost both hands. Each struggles to readjust to families and a world that has changed. William Wyler's 1946 film, which used the real double amputee Harold Russell for Homer, won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and was a landmark in the honest treatment of veterans.
Sinekatalog’s take
Three WWII veterans return home to find life changed. Wyler's postwar drama treats disability and readjustment with honesty, and it moves without becoming maudlin.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
