Plot

Professor Immanuel Rath, a respected and strict teacher at a German school, follows his pupils to a seedy cabaret, the Blue Angel, where he meets the singer Lola Lola, played by Marlene Dietrich. He falls for her, marries her and loses his job and his dignity, ending as a clown in the cabaret. Josef von Sternberg's 1930 film, shot in German and English versions, made Dietrich an international star with the song "Falling in Love Again" and is a classic of early sound cinema.

Sinekatalog’s take

Josef von Sternberg's early sound classic follows a professor ruined by a cabaret singer. Marlene Dietrich's Lola Lola made her a star, and the film's decadent mood and Emil Jannings's tragedy are unforgettable.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
