Sinekatalog’s take

Victor Sjöström's silent Hollywood adaptation of Hawthorne has Lillian Gish as Hester Prynne branded for adultery in Puritan Massachusetts. Gish is luminous in a stark, moving and beautifully shot period tragedy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
