Croatia

Croatian cinema stood out in Yugoslav times for its animation, with the Zagreb School of Animation winning an Oscar for a short in 1962. After independence in 1991 it dealt with the war and its aftermath, and directors like Dalibor Matanić have won festival attention with intimate stories of ethnic tension and memory.
