Plot
An affluent aristocratic family in Dubrovnik is shown in the years of the Second World War, against the arrival of fascist occupation and violence. Their comfortable life, with its pleasures, is gradually undermined by history. Lordan Zafranović's 1978 film is told in 26 separate sequences, and is a lush, harsh portrait of complicity and moral failure.
Sinekatalog’s take
Lordan Zafranović's drama tracks a wealthy Dubrovnik family in the war years as fascist occupation erodes their comfortable world. Lush and tragic, with a painterly eye, it is a major Yugoslav film about complicity and decay.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
