Ethiopian cinema is small but has a strong diaspora link. Haile Gerima, who studied in Los Angeles, made Sankofa and Harvest: 3000 Years, uniting African history and Black American experience. At home, a growing independent scene works with limited funding and tells stories of rural life, religion and politics.
