Born in Paris in 1930 and died in 2010, Chabrol was a Cahiers du cinéma critic who made one of the first New Wave films. He went on to make more than fifty films, mostly cool, ironic thrillers about the French middle class, its secrets and its crimes, often influenced by Hitchcock.
