Born in Havana in 1944, Fernando Pérez is one of the best-known Cuban directors since the revolution. His films include Clandestinos (1987), Madagascar (1994), Life Is to Whistle (1998), Suite Habana (2003), a nearly wordless portrait of a day in the lives of Havana residents, Madrigal (2006) and José Martí: el ojo del canario (2010).
