Sinekatalog’s take

Manoel de Oliveira's first film is a city-symphony of Porto and the working life along the Douro River, edited with rhythmic force. Fresh, modernist and lyrical, it is a striking debut already showing a singular eye.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
