A silent ethnographic film about the harsh lives of villagers in the mountain region of Svaneti in Georgia, who lack salt.

Sinekatalog’s take

Mikhail Kalatozov's silent ethnographic film depicts the harsh lives of Georgian mountain villagers without salt. Striking in its stark imagery and rhythmic editing, it is a bold, poetic and propagandist classic of early Soviet cinema.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
