Plot

Scarlett O'Hara, a headstrong Southern belle, is in love with Ashley Wilkes, who marries another. As the American Civil War destroys her world, she fights to save her family plantation, Tara, through hunger, loss and Reconstruction, and marries three times, finally to the dashing Rhett Butler. Victor Fleming's 1939 epic, with Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable, was a gigantic box-office success and won eight Academy Awards. Its romantic portrayal of the antebellum South has been widely criticised for its depiction of slavery.

Sinekatalog’s take

A Civil War epic told from a Southern belle's viewpoint. Visually grand and a huge box-office hit, but its romanticised view of the Old South and slavery is a serious problem, and viewers should watch with that in mind.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
