Plot

In a provincial Argentine town, a young woman named Graciela, the daughter of a family with money but also a chilly emotional distance, becomes entangled in the tensions of small-town society. Leopoldo Torre Nilsson's 1956 drama, with its observation of repression and class, is typical of his early work, which examined the stifling rituals of the Argentine middle class and helped bring his country's cinema to world attention.

Sinekatalog’s take

Leopoldo Torre Nilsson's 1956 drama follows a young woman from a wealthy but emotionally cold family caught in the tensions of provincial Argentina. Moody and stylised, with gothic shadings, it is a sharp study of repression and class.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
