Plot

After his wife and family flee to the United States in 1961, Sergio, a middle-class intellectual, remains in Havana, observing the changes of the revolution, the missile crisis and his own relationships with women. He is detached and ironic, unable to commit to either side. Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's 1968 film mixes fiction with documentary footage and is a sophisticated and ambivalent portrait of Cuba in transition.

Sinekatalog’s take

Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's Cuban classic follows a detached bourgeois remaining in Havana after the revolution. Witty, collage-like and critical, it is a landmark of Third Cinema and a sharp study of alienation.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
