Plot

The film tells the story of three women named Lucía in three different periods of Cuban history: 1895, during the war of independence; 1932, in the revolution against the dictator Machado; and the 1960s, in the era of the revolution of Fidel Castro. Each shows the effect of political change on women's lives. Humberto Solás's 1968 film is an ambitious, richly stylised work.

Sinekatalog’s take

Humberto Solás's Cuban epic follows three women named Lucía across three eras, the 1895 war, the 1930s uprising and the 1960s revolution. Sweeping and shifting in style, it is a vivid, passionate and landmark feminist history.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
