Mothlight
Stan BrakhageCast
No credited cast is listed for this film.
Plot
Seemingly at random, the wings and other bits of moths and insects move rapidly across the screen. Most are brown or sepia; up close, we can see patterns within wings, similar to the veins in a leaf.
Sinekatalog’s take
Brakhage pressed moth wings and plant matter between strips of film, creating a flickering, hand-made abstraction. Short, tactile and hypnotic, it turns fragile natural material into pure light and motion, a landmark for experimental film enthusiasts.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
