Plot

A family of rural servants in Extremadura in the 1960s endures humiliation and servitude under a cruel landowner. Their slow-witted younger son Azarías is devoted to a bird, and when the landowner's hunting leads to a shock, a violent act follows. Mario Camus's 1984 film, with Alfredo Landa and Francisco Rabal, who shared the Best Actor prize at Cannes, is a harsh portrait of class oppression.
