Joseph Losey

Classical Hollywood

Born in Wisconsin in 1909 and dying in London in 1984, Joseph Losey worked in the theatre and made a few films in Hollywood, such as The Boy with Green Hair (1948), before he was blacklisted during the McCarthy era and settled in Britain. There he directed films of class, power and sexual manipulation, often written by Harold Pinter: The Servant (1963), Accident (1967) and The Go-Between (1971), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. He also made Eva (1962) and Mr. Klein (1976) in France, and Don Giovanni (1979).
