Plot
Albert Nobbs struggles to survive in late 19th century Ireland, where women aren't encouraged to be independent. Posing as a man, so she can work as a butler in Dublin's most posh hotel, Albert meets a handsome painter and looks to escape the lie she has been living.
Sinekatalog’s take
A shy woman hides her identity to survive in a rigid hotel hierarchy, and the film lingers on the loneliness that disguise creates. The performances are careful and moving, though the story moves slowly and stays emotionally reserved. A sober period drama for patient viewers.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
