Plot

A Yorkshire coal mine is threatened with closure and the only hope is for the men to enter their Grimley Colliery Brass Band into a national competition. They believe they have no hope until Gloria appears carrying her Flugelhorn.

Sinekatalog’s take

A funny, angry film about a mining community clinging to its brass band while the pit is being shut down around it. The music is stirring and the politics are heartfelt, with a bittersweet streak throughout. A fine pick for fans of working-class British tragicomedy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
