Two rogue vagrants make their living as "manure men", turning the waste from the tenement toilets into fertiliser sold to local farmers. Enter Okiku, the only daughter of a fallen samurai, and amongst the overflowing piles of excrement, a well-nourished love story unfolds.

Sinekatalog’s take

Two vagrants who collect waste from tenement toilets to sell as fertilizer meet a fallen samurai's daughter, and love blooms among the filth. The mix of earthiness and sweetness is audacious. A funny, humane pick for fans of Japanese period comedy.Sinekatalog’s own editorial review – not a user or critic quote.
