Argentina

Argentine cinema had a strong studio era in the 1930s to 50s with tango films and melodrama. The 1960s and 70s brought political and documentary work such as Solanas and Getino's The Hour of the Furnaces and the idea of a 'Third Cinema'. After the dictatorship the country produced a vivid 'New Argentine Cinema' of small stories, with directors like Lucrecia Martel and Lisandro Alonso.
